Arlington Road analysis

Previously in class before we started filming, we completed a task in which we had to re-edit the beginning of a film opening called "Arlington Road". To do this we had to use a program called Final Cut Pro which we will be using when we edit our final film opening; therefore completing this task was a valuable experience for me and I have never used Final Cut Pro before. For this task we had to create Foley sounds which we done by taking the camera out and recording the necessary sounds for this sequence. The types of sounds we had to record were footsteps, heavy breathing and the noise of cars driving by. After we had recorded these sounds we then learnt how to put them on to the sequence of footage so that they fell in place with the footage where they were supposed to go. By doing this I have learnt that we need to watch the footage more carefully before hand so that we can record the noises so that they fit in  accurately with the footage. For example, when we see the feet walking towards the camera, we placed the noise of the footsteps that we recorded over this, however the sound does not always fall perfectly in the correct timing as when the feet walk. Therefore this is a flaw in our re-edit of Arlington Road but we can learn from our mistakes so now we know that when we film the Foley sounds for our actual film opening, we need to observe the footage better before hand. Overall I feel that completing this task was a valuable experience as I have learnt a number of different things such as the basics of how to use Final Cut Pro, which I hope to develop my skills in further and how to create Foley sounds; which will both be necessary skills that I will be able to use when it come to editing our final film opening.
